Heat Results
Heat 01: Fricke, Sedgmen, Holder, Howarth 5-1
Line Up: Fricke, Sedgmen, Holder, Howarth
Comments: FTG untroubled for the Lions. Howarth coasted over the line at the back. Tatum (commentating on his own) reckoned Sedgmen was under pressure, but in reality Holder never got close. Brief analysis by Nicholls.
Supported by Maitland Travel www.maitlandtravel.co.uk - providers of Speedway Holidays and bespoke travel all over the world
Heat 02: Allen, Kerr, Thompson, Gilkes 4-2, 9-3
Line Up: Allen, Thompson, Kerr, Gilkes
Comments: Riders preparing for Heat 2, and Tatum explained how the mechanics are checking chain tension after a practice start. Interesting that Tatum says Gilkes with a "hard" G, as opposed to Jilkes.
Kerr made the start, with Allen taking the outside line off the second bend and cuts off Kerr going into the third bend. Thompson came under Gilkes off the second bend to grab third and that's how it stayed.
Supported by Friends Of Steve Casey - Always An Ace
Heat 03: Lawson, Musielak, Harris, Bellego 4-2, 13-5
Line Up: Lawson, Harris, Bellego, Musielak
Comments: Lions away. Bellego looked like an uncertain junior rider going into the first bend. A likely 5-1 until the end of the third lap, when Musielak suddenly challenged Harris. He came under Harris round B1&2L4 and then Harris looked like he had shut off the Pole into the third bend, but Harris drifted a bit on the fourth bend, and Musielak got his wheels in line quicker to steal second on the line.
Some dust rising on the bends.

Heat 04: Morris, Ellis, Thompson, Gilkes 4-1, 17-7
Line Up: Morris, Thompson, Ellis, Gilkes
Comments: FTG although Ellis lifted violently on outside of second bend. Thompson seemed to be comfortable in second, although he was riding a wider line, with Ellis happier on the inside. Although Ellis never challenged, Thompson caught too much grip on the final bend had to shut off a bit and re-adjust, and Ellis sneaked through on the inside for second.

David Rowe at Wolves giving a summary of the opening heats, with a few seconds of each race being shown.
Nicholls analysing the on-board camera with Musielak as he makes that excellent pass on Harris - they got very close on the third bend!
Heat 05: Holder, Lawson, Harris, Howarth 3-3, 20-10
Line Up: Lawson, Harris, Holder, Howarth
Comments: Lawson made the start, but Holder was very quick off bend 2 to race inside and away to a comfortable win. Howarth looked comfy in third, taking the wider line and Harris unusually pushing on the inside. It all seemed settled until Harris suddenly passed Howarth off the second bend and down the back straight of the last lap (TV missed it). Howarth again coasted over the line - must have been disappointed.
Supported by Rails of Sheffield
Heat 06: Fricke, Kerr, Ellis, Sedgmen 3-3, 23-13
Line Up: Fricke, Sedgmen, Ellis, Kerr
Comments: Lions quickly away. Kerr edged inside Sedgmen down back straight and took him high and wide on the fourth bend, so Ellis came through for the shared heat.

Heat 07: Musielak, Morris, Allen, Bellego 3-3, 26-16
Line Up: Morris, Allen, Bellego, Musielak
Comments: Lions quickly away. Musielak swept inside Morris down back straight. Bellego pointless.

Nicholls on the starting gate, looking at the run from Gate 4 which has a slick line - then moves to Gate 1 which he describes as "awesome" with lots of grip to add to the ruts. Finished off with a close-up of the magnet on the starting gate, which the riders watch for the first sign of movement. Tatum says the track is riding much slicker than expected.
Heat 08: Gilkes, Sedgmen, Howarth, Thompson 2-4, 28-20
Line Up: Sedgmen, Thompson, Howarth, Gilkes
Comments: Great start and fine ride by Gilkes to take the win. Howarth worked really hard on the first lap to grab second from Sedgmen, and looked comfortable for the remainder of the race ... until the final bend when Howarth went too wide, pulled a locker and Sedgmen said thank you very much.
Supported by Scorpions TV - Never Miss a Sting! link
Heat 09: Harris, Lawson, Ellis, Kerr 5-1, 33-21
Line Up: Lawson, Harris, Ellis, Kerr
Comments: Great gate by the Tigers pair, but Ellis lifted of the second bend and got in the way of Kerr. Harris and Lawson this time said cheers and went on to record an unchallenged max.

Abi Stephens in the pits with Simon Stead: Strong start by the Lions, caught us out. No excuses, we've got to be better. Holder in white for Heat 10.
Heat 10: Sedgmen, Fricke, Musielak, Holder 5-1, 38-22
Line Up: Fricke, Sedgmen,Bellego Holder, Musielak
Comments: Holder as T/S for the pointless Bellego. Tigers on the favoured 1&3. Sedgmen ignores the others to storm away for the win. Fricke outside the Tigers off bend 2, and never challenged by Musielak. Holder nowhere.

Abi Stephens in the pits with Sedgmen, having a bit of a laugh.
Nicholls analyses Heat 8, with Howarth feeling the pressure and Sedgmen grabbing second place. Slick and grippy lines very clear on the track. Tatum imprressedw ith Fricke's effort off Gate 4 in Heat 10, working a "minor miracle" to get round into second place.
Heat 11: Holder, Morris, Howarth, Allen 2-4, 40-26
Line Up: Morris, Allen, Holder, Howarth
Comments: Holder looking much happier with a quick start. Howarth into second off bend 2, but Morris all the way round the outside of bends 3 & 4 to take second.

Abi Stephens talking to Lewis Kerr - from the track walk we thought there'd be more on it, but it's the same for everyone, need to get out of the starts.
Heat 12: Lawson, Kerr, Thompson, Bellego 4-2, 44-28
Line Up: Lawson, Thompson, Bellego, Kerr
Comments: Pointless Bellego several bike lengths behind as the others enter bend 3. Thompson held 2nd at this point, although Kerr came past, and tried to pressure Lawson, to no avail.
Supported by Speedway Fantasy League - www.speedwayleague.net
Abi Stephens with Stewart Dickson - "every point's a prisoner". Telling riders off Gate 4 to get as close as possible to Gate 3. Pleased with the way the team is coming together.
Heat 13: Fricke, Morris, Holder, Ellis 5-1, 49-29
Line Up: Fricke, Morris, Holder, Ellis
Comments: Holder quick from the start, and held tight line off Bend 2, but was only ahead of Ellis - Fricke flew around the outside to take the lead and Morris also had the momentum to claim second place.
Supported by Vin's Ices @ Sheffield Speedway - the best ice cream in British speedway!
Abi Stephens with Max Fricke - you're riding like a #1 should - yeah, great to get everything falling into place, and less pressure with the team all doing well. Stephens: Did you feel the pressure coming here? Fricke: not really, nice transition coming here, everyone getting along and sharing information.
Heat 14: Musielak, Harris, Allen, Kerr 3-3, 52-32
Line Up: Harris, Allen, Musielak,Gilkes Kerr
Comments: Kerr reserve switch for Gilkes. Tigers dominate the first bend, and look good for a couple of laps, until Harris surges under Kerr down back straight and Kerr drifts so wide on top of 3rd/4th bend he almost stopped, so Allen had no problem coming through.

Heat 15: (Re-run) Holder, Musielak, Fricke, Lawson (X) 1-5, 53-37
Line-up: Fricke, Lawson, Holder, Musielak
Comments: Tigers off 1&3. STOPPED: Super start by Holder to take the lead, Musielak comes through off Bend 2, but Fricke keeps it powered round the outside of 3&4 to hold second. Going into bend 1 of lap 2, Lawson had got under Musielak, but Musielak refused to give any ground and tried to turn across Lawson, who high-sided into the airfence. Musielak also came down in a high-speed fall. Both up and walking back to the pits. Lawson excluded.

Chris Harris - pleased with the team win - I've been riding a bit defensively - pleased with pass in Heat 14.

Lots of discussion between Tatum and Nicholls about the seven teams in the Sports Insure Premiership. No predictions.
Tatum gets his rusty dirtometer out. Lots of shale has been packed into the surface, with the starts ripped up, although he thinks the exits from the bends might catch out the riders because the track feels really hard - the screwdriver barely broke the surface.
