Ref is Paul Carrington (what's he been up to, to be sen to the I.o.W. in the middle of Winter?)
Weather is Middle of Winter.
I.o.W. won the toss, and took 2&4 in heat 1.
Tom Perry on 6pm boat, so race against time to be ready for heat 4.
Also, the meeting was very lucky to go ahead, only due to a member of trackstaff (a retired electrician) who saw some old colleagues about to disconnect the power to the stadium at half 4 due to a storm related tree incident. He managed to persuade them to put it off until half 9 tonight, so we have a 9.15 curfew, which is absolute!
Ht 1, Chris Widman R/R in Blue.
Ht 1, 1st Worrall, 2nd Widman, 3rd Greenwood, Blackbird Ret, 69.5, 5-1, 5-1, 38-59. Worrall gated into the lead, with Blackbird behind. Widman past Greenwood on first lap, before Lewis Ret on 3rd bend, lap 3, gifting the I.o.W. the first of many 5-1's
Ht 2, 1st Downes, 2nd Isherwood, Widman & Greaves Ret, 74.7, 3-2, 8-3, 41-61. Greaves gated into the lead, with Widman right behind for 2 laps, until Chris Ret on 4th bend. Then on next bend, Greaves retired as well, leaving Reece Downes to win his first ever race. Another point in the bag!
Ht 3, 1st Morris, 2nd Hopwood, 3rd Priest, 4th Clegg, 70.6, 3-3, 11-6, 44-64. Pyschic start from Ashley Morris, to be 2 bike-lengths in the lead by first bend. From tapes.
Tom Perry has arrived, and will ride in heat 4
Ht 4, Widman got a nudge on 1st bend and fell, up and ok, ready to pick up some more points on the Heathens. (I've gotta dream, it's freezing here, only my sarcasm is keeping me going).
Ht 4 rerun, 1st Starke, 2nd Perry, 3rd Greaves, 4th Widman, 70.2, 2-4, 13-10, 46-68. Heathens gated to a 4-2, but Greaves went past Perr on 2nd lap, only to have an engine failure yards from the line to gift Perry 2nd place again.
Ht 5, 1st Blackbird, 2nd Hopwood, 3rd Priest, 4th Greenwood, 69.8, 3-3, 16-13, 49-71. Heathens gated, but Ben & Luke passed Dan on 1st bend.
Tractor racing.
Ht 6, 1st Worrall, 2nd Starke, 3rd Priest, Isherwood Ret, 69.7, 4-2, 20-15, 53-73. Worrall gated, with a lap long battle between Starke and Priest for 2nd place, which was finally decided by a small lift from Luke. From tapes after that.
Ht 7, 1st Perry, 2nd Clegg, 3rd Downes, Morris Fell, 71.9, 4-2, 24-17, 57-75. Tom and Ashley had a great tussle on first lap, before Morris came off on the outside on bend 3. Other riders missed him, and he rolled round at the back for a bit, but the bottom line is that the I.o.W. chipped another couple of points off the lead. I believe.
Ht 8, Tom Perry R/R in Red.
Ht 8, 1st Perry, 2nd Greenwood, 3rd Widman, Greaves Ret, 71.8, 4-2, 28-19, 61-77. Greenwood gated, but was overtaken on bend 1, lap 2. Before that on lap 3, Greaves came to grief, and was lucky to avoid everybody else! Leapt off the track with his bike to his credit. Closer and closer . . . .
Ht 9, 1st Hopwood, 2nd Priest, 3rd Starke, 4th Isherwood, 70.7, 5-1, 33-20, 66-78. From the tapes, Starke all over the back of Priest on bends 1&2, but backing off on bends 3&4. 12 points.
Ht 10, Ashley Morris Tac Ride (wonder how many tac rides Dudley have had this year?) and C. Widman R/R in Blue.
Ht 10, 1st Morris (6pts), 2nd Worrall, 3rd Widman, 4th Clegg, 69.7, 3-6, 36-26, 69-84. Awful gate from Worrall, if we'd have had one of 5-Laps-Les' famous races, he may well have taken the lead.
Ht 11, 1st Blackbird, 2nd Greenwood, 3rd Widman, Perry Ret, 69.5, 1-5, 37-31, 70-89. Perry sluggish from gate, Heathens on a 5-1, before Perry retired early in 2nd lap. There it goes, sigh.
Ht 12, 1st Hopwood, 2nd Morris, 3rd Isherwood, Widman Fell, Awarded, 3-3, 40-34, 73-92. From gate, Widman fell challenging 3rd on 1st bend, stayed down (although was ok) so the race was awarded before the riders came round again. The dream is fainally over.
Ht 13, 1st Worall, 2nd Blackbird, 3rd Starke, 4th Perry, 69.6, 3-3, 43-37, 76-95. Couldn't see the racing through my tears.
Ht 14, Rerun with all 4, didn't see it myself, but the tapes had blown against Reece Downes wheel, with Clegg then giving them a bit more of a nudge and breaking them when they were released, so all 4 back, much to the disgust of the crowd!
Ht 14, 1st Greaves, 2nd Downes, 3rd Clegg, Priest Fell, 71.8, 2-4, 45-41, 78-99. Priest fell on bend 4, lap 3, whilst well clear. Good evenings work from young Reece Downes.
Dudley taking 2&4.
Ht 15, Red S. Worrall, Blue B. Hopwood, White P. Starke, Yellow L. Blackbird.
Ht 15, 1st Worrall, 2nd Blackbird, 3rd Starke, 4th Hopwood, 70.0, 3-3, 48-44, 81-102. From gate. Won the battle, but lost the war. Congrats Dudley, see you all next year
